Experience oil painting in a new, exciting way with Sennelier Oil Sticks! These unique sticks combine the quality of traditional oil paint with the immediacy of drawing, allowing for greater spontaneity and freedom of expression in your work.
What are Sennelier Oil Sticks?
A Sennelier Oil Stick is oil paint in a solid form. A portion of the oil is substituted with a neutral mineral wax, giving the colour its stick appearance. These French-made colours are top quality:
- Pure Pigments: High pigment concentration ensures excellent lightfastness and colour intensity.
- Selected Vegetable Oils: The oils used as binders are selected for their low tendency to yellow over time.
- Ready to Use: Remove the surface film before use (the film will reform after a few days of non-use).
New Possibilities for Oil Painting:
- Directly onto Surface: You can apply colour directly from the stick onto traditional primed surfaces suitable for oil painting (canvas, canvas boards, linen, thick paper).
- Drawing and Painting: Combine elements of drawing and painting. You can create thin lines or broad strokes.
- Layering and Mixing: Apply colour in thin layers (max 1 mm). Layers can be worked over each other like traditional oil paint. The colour can be thinned with petroleum spirit or turpentine if necessary.
- Drying and Varnishing: The paint dries within 2 to 5 days depending on layer thickness and atmospheric conditions. The finished work can be varnished with a final varnish suitable for oil paint after a minimum drying period of 6 months.
- Transparency: A colourless stick (Clear Medium) is also available, allowing you to create transparent effects and glazes.
